Mikel is a board-certified specialist in obesity and weight management with more than 10 years of experience supporting complex nutrition and medical needs.

Mikel M. Bryant, MS RDN CD CSOWM, is a registered dietitian nutritionist and board-certified specialist in obesity and weight management at Sensibly Sprouted. Based in Bellingham, WA, she brings more than 10 years of experience supporting patients with a wide range of nutrition-related health needs, including weight management, diabetes, heart disease, gastrointestinal concerns, kidney disease, liver disease, malnutrition, oncology nutrition, bariatric and surgical weight management, and complex medical histories.
Mikel’s background includes both hospital and outpatient clinic settings, where she has worked with patients from diverse cultural, medical, and personal backgrounds. Early in her career, she covered multiple nutrition specialties, which helped shape her interest in the complex and highly personal nature of weight management. She later transitioned into a full-time outpatient bariatric dietitian role and became a Certified Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management.
Her approach is shaped by motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and practical problem-solving. She understands that lifestyle change can feel hard and uncomfortable, but she also believes it can become more purposeful and manageable when patients receive support that fits their real lives. Rather than focusing only on numbers or rigid plans, Mikel helps patients identify patterns, barriers, strengths, and realistic next steps.
Mikel earned her bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition/Dietetics from the University of Florida, graduating Cum Laude. She then completed a combined dietetic internship and master’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of North Florida. She has also served as an Instructor of Nutrition through Mayo Clinic’s College of Medicine and Science and has received recognition for dietetic practice and internship precepting.
Outside of clinical work, Mikel enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest, backpacking, traveling, cooking, reading psychological thrillers, listening to hard rock and metal, and spending time with her mustached cat, Burt Reynolds.
Mikel’s care philosophy is centered on compassion, curiosity, and sustainable progress. She sees each patient as a unique person with their own story, health history, routines, preferences, and goals.
She helps patients approach nutrition as a learning process, not a pass-or-fail test. Using evidence-based guidance, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and realistic goal setting, she works with patients to create practical strategies that fit their daily lives.
For patients working on weight management, diabetes, heart health, or other complex nutrition concerns, Mikel emphasizes self-compassion, long-term support, and care that looks beyond the number on the scale.
